The Siem Reap Chilled Backpacker

The reception team were so kind and helpful, especially when they helped me rent a bike. It made exploring the area easy. The restaurant staff were just as welcoming, always smiling, and the atmosphere felt really pleasant. The hotel is in a great spot, close to everything you need. I’d definitely stay again.

For a place with “backpacker” in the name, I wasn’t expecting a grand luxury hotel. The staff are friendly and helpful, the aircon works well, and I liked the old wood furniture. The floors and beds were clean, and the restaurant is comfortable, though service can be slow for large groups. The beds were rock hard, though, and the bathroom needed fresh grout and silicone. There were black stains all over the shower joints, and the shower curtain had black mould along the bottom. It had been left beside the toilet when we arrived, so I wasn’t sure how clean it was. I didn’t use it, and found out some other rooms didn’t have one at all. I’d stay again if the price were right.

The dorm rooms were incredible for the price, and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. The pool was refreshing, and we had it to ourselves since the place was very quiet when we visited. I was surprised, given the facilities: a pool table, restaurant and bar service, and lots of space to relax or socialize. I think we came in low season, so maybe it’s the same elsewhere. No complaints from us. It was a great chance to unwind, and service was super quick. We hired a scooter for the day and accidentally put the lock on the wrong way. They had to get a key cut to remove it, and weren’t even going to charge us for the trouble. Such lovely owners and staff. I’d highly recommend it to budget-conscious travelers.

The sheets and linen in the second room had so many awful stains that I decided to stay somewhere else. That room also had a stained toilet seat. I’d asked to change rooms after finding the tub in my original room incredibly dirty. The staff member didn’t seem to care and said the cleaning staff had already left the house. They only let me switch after I asked. They apologized for the inconvenience but didn’t refund my money. I can’t recommend this place. I suspect many reviews here and on other platforms are fake, and the photos look either very old or edited.
