Xing Angkor Hotel

For $12, you can get an air-conditioned room, though the bathroom is old-style and has a wall-mounted water heater. There’s a nice pool, helpful staff, a refrigerator in the room, and some cable TV. Decent value in a convenient spot.

We chose a room at the back of Xing Angkor Hotel and it stayed quiet, even though the hotel is in a busy part of town. The rooms were tidy and had AC, the price was fine, and the pool was nice. Breakfast is available, though we skipped it to go to AW for Sunset. The staff helped arrange TukTuk rides, and let us shower in the afternoon after checkout.

The pool was alright, which is the only reason I gave this place two stars. The room was dirty, the equipment old, and the whole stay disappointing. I know it’s a budget room, but that doesn’t excuse the lack of quality. The wifi was painfully slow too. The photos show the many problems.

Xing Angkor was an enjoyable base for my five days, with especially nice staff, including Mony. I was about 3 minutes on foot from good food on Taphul road, 6 minutes from Lucky Mall and Angkor Market, and 10 to 15 from the Night market and pub Street. The pool is cozy and under 6 feet deep, and was mostly quiet early in the morning and at night. There’s also a bar with wine and beer. Breakfast was basic, two slices of toast, eggs, seasonal fruit, and coffee or tea. I’d have liked more choice. The room had cable TV and the wifi was unexpectedly fast. Toiletries included a comb, toothbrush, shower gel, and shampoo, and there was a bidet. A hairdryer was available, but only after I kept asking and my travel agent got involved. I arrived around 11pm, and there wasn’t staff available to help with requests, which was understandable. There’s no elevator, so you have to carry your luggage all the way up. Check the sheets and towels for stains, though when I reported mine in the morning, they replaced them right away.
