Tatai Hostel Resort

The boat trip was the highlight for us. Our guide was really friendly and helpful, took us to a secluded little island downriver, and made a Khmer BBQ with the most amazing creamy pepper sauce I’ve ever tasted. We watched the sunset, then sat under a starry sky with lively fireflies around us. We came with family and friends for Christmas, choosing Tatai for its seclusion and the Resort and Marina because it’s roughly between Koh Kong town, the beach, and the waterfall. The staff were attentive and helped with everything we needed. The rooms were comfortable, modern-looking, nicely decorated, and clean, with bathrobes, towels, water, a small fridge, and a TV. Our balcony looked over the pool and pond toward the hills. A gorgeous view, perhaps worth the price. The resort food was good, with plenty of vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options, and breakfast was included. Since they’re far from the market and don’t get supplies often, ask the staff what they recommend. Still, a few things disappointed us. The food was priced like a fancy Phnom Penh restaurant, and although it tasted good, it wasn’t worth that much. It felt like they were taking advantage of guests. At those prices, I expected the toilet seats to stay on and the sink to drain properly. For road tours, our guide, who was also the van driver, charged more than our driver from Phnom Penh to Tatai. He seemed to be the only tour guide the resort would hire, and he was somewhat shady about the prices. We felt taken advantage of and couldn’t do anything about it. I’d arrange road tours somewhere else.

The natural waterfall is beautiful, and the other staff were okay, but the service from the hotel was very bad. The manager was especially rude, turning his back while talking to customers and speaking to them rudely. He cheated and lied to customers, which I found unacceptable. The swimming pool was dirty, apparently because that manager wasn’t managing it properly.

The grounds are surrounded by mountains and nature, with a pool set among it all. The rooms are clean, spacious, and nicely decorated. There are family and double rooms, plus a group room that can fit 15-20 people. A nice place with good views, recommended for groups and families.

A private, luxurious hotel with just 15 rooms. They have family standard and deluxe rooms, and arranging a waterfall tour is easy. The price is the same as the boat association’s, but charged per person.
