Gyeongpo Soo Hotel

The biggest annoyance was the elevator, which smelled as if it hadn’t been vacuumed in ages. I had to hold my nose each time. The room floor didn’t feel clean under bare feet, and the bathroom only had small towels. I had to request a large towel, which I’d never had to do after staying in hotels around the world. They said Koreans don’t usually use large towels, so they only provide small ones. The hotel charged my credit card before I arrived in Korea, rather than when I got there as the other Booking.com hotels I’d used had done. Still, it was good value in a reasonably convenient location. Gyeongpo Beach is right across the road, the room was spacious with a great ocean view, and there’s a convenience store next door for midnight snacks. My floor also had a microwave and hot water dispensers.

Quiet corner, with a 711 right next door. The rooms are okay, but they’ve seen better days. The online photos make it look better than it is, and my room smelled a bit like old beer and detergent. Only small towels, too. It was a very good deal, but next time in Gangneung I’ll pick somewhere else.

The rooms are pretty standard and right by the seafront. They look renovated, but the plumbing seems old, so be careful with the taps and bathroom.
