Sunny-Hunny Guesthouse - Hostel

I was there alone as a bachelor, and ended up being pushed into a dinner drinking party with a group of women. The hike up the mountain the next day was fun. The owner has a difficult personality, so be careful. I still have only good memories of the place, which is why I gave it a high rating.

Without a rental car, getting around from here is inconvenient. The accommodations seem aimed at working travelers and feel neither here nor there, and there aren’t many restaurants nearby, so I could really only sleep there. I booked through Naver, but was told I had to call and pay in advance. When I asked a few simple questions, they dodged them in a way that made me feel like I was bothering them. I ended up afraid to ask anything.

The guesthouse has a charming old-fashioned look and sits among the trees, and it’s quite affordable. It could use some updating, though, and little things like missing hangers were inconvenient. There was also that damp, musty smell you sometimes get in forest houses.

The room had a strong damp, moldy odor as soon as I walked in, like it was coming up from the basement. The mugs were dirty, and even using the microwave meant asking the owner first. Lounge hours didn’t match what was posted. I bought dinner expecting to eat inside, but if the lounge wasn’t open I had to wait hungry until the owner arrived or eat outdoors. It was meant to open at 5 p.m., but sometimes didn’t until after 8 p.m. The owner was extremely particular and would pick at guests even when nothing seemed wrong. It felt like everything had to be done to suit him. The countryside location also means the last train is early, and neither the price nor the location stands out compared with other places. This was the worst accommodation I’ve stayed at.
