Gwangyang Ritz Hotel

September 13, 2022. The places I booked in Gwangyang all seemed to be around this level. They oddly serve ramen in the morning. The room was a little large, but the bathroom had broken tiles and similar issues.

I got a low rate with a discount coupon, so I’m really pleased with the price. It’s a tidy business hotel on a main road, which makes getting around easy. The room was quiet, pleasant and free of cigarette smell. It also had a Styler, a latex bed and goose-down comforter that felt like they hugged my body, plus adjustable room temperature and complimentary breakfast. I’m in Gwangyang for work often, so I expect I’ll stay here regularly.

Some rooms had such a bad air conditioning smell that I couldn’t sleep there that night. Other rooms didn’t have it, which left me uneasy. At least there was a styler in the room, and downstairs on the first floor they had toast, eggs, milk, water and green tea.

There are plenty of inexpensive motels nearby, but I find this place better than a motel, and a lot of business travelers stay here, me included. Rates are 60,000 won for a standard room and 70,000 won for deluxe, which includes a massage chair. Every room has a Styler. They leave sandwiches out in the morning, handy to grab when checking out, and are generous with bottled water. I once took the last available ondol room, but wouldn’t recommend that one.
