Over our four days and three nights here, a vomit-like smell started coming from the bathroom on the first day and kept getting worse. By the following morning it had spread through the room. We tried perfume and ventilation, thinking it might be something on our end, but nothing worked. Eventually the smell was so bad we couldn’t use the bathroom, so we asked to move rooms the next morning. The hotel sent a cleaner instead. They sprayed deodorizer and offered to wash the bathroom with water, but that only helped briefly and the odor returned. When we pressed for a room change, they said the hotel was full. We asked for a refund for the remaining two nights, but they were reluctant, saying it would be complicated because we booked through a third-party app. Since moving seemed like the only workable option, we offered to pay extra for another room. They first suggested a “Family Deluxe” with just a small discount, charging an extra 150,000 KRW per night. Later they said a Deluxe room had opened up and offered it for 80,000 KRW extra per night instead. The problem was entirely with the hotel, yet they kept shifting the inconvenience onto us. After we complained, they finally offered one night in a Deluxe room, on the condition that we check out the next day and then back into a Standard room. It took more than two hours of back-and-forth to agree, ruining our afternoon plans. We had to accept because of our schedule. We did get one night in the upgraded room, but the problem was hardly resolved. Our afternoon was lost, and the next day we had to check out at 11 a.m. and wait outside until the 2 p.m. check-in. That was completely unacceptable, so we canceled the last night through the booking app. I understand hotel facilities can have problems. What I can’t accept is the lack of accountability and how they pushed the inconvenience onto the guest. If we hadn’t kept raising the issue, we’d have been stuck in that foul-smelling room for all three nights. I still feel bitter thinking about it. I’m sharing this awful experience in case it helps others considering the hotel. Thanks for reading.

There are a couple of convenience stores and cafés nearby, and the rooms are clean with a nice view. The breakfast is very modest. There’s no pool apart from the private ones attached to the suites. The receptionist was rude, and you’ll need a car to reach the nearest swimming beach.

The staff are especially nice and speak English, and the food is both delicious and varied. There are lots of places nearby to visit, walk around, or eat. It’s a wonderful space with great views.

The outside looked fancy, but inside it was disgusting. We paid for one of the best rooms, with a rooftop pool, and the conditions were bad enough that I took photos so they couldn’t blame us for damage. Several towels had holes, the furniture and floor were damaged, the pool was dirty, and the sheets had blood stains. The shower head was broken, there were major brownish stains on the master bedroom’s white walls, and the floor heater wouldn’t turn off even though we were there in midsummer. A very loud speaker played unwanted music on the deck and switched on automatically, so we had to call the front desk every day to turn it off. They gave us breakfast tickets for three days as compensation, but I’ve never seen such awful hotel conditions. If I could rate it lower, I would.

The food was nice and the view was good, but the customer service was the worst I’ve experienced in years, despite staying at luxurious hotels around the world. We arrived close to 5 p.m. and our room still wasn’t ready. The afternoon reception staff had an attitude for no clear reason, and check-in took a very long time. While we were trying to sort out the delay, the women with the attitude said in Korean, which I understand, “after we go to the bathroom, we can go out and smoke.” We told them that wasn’t appropriate to say in front of customers. They apologized, saying they hadn’t realized we could understand Korean as foreigners. After keeping us waiting, they asked for our passports with mean looks, then handed over the room keys. They weren’t welcoming and wouldn’t even leave the desk to greet or help us. This wasn’t what I expected from a 5-star hotel. I will NOT invite my mom back here from the states. This was THE Embarrassing experience of Jeju, South Korea.
