The check-in felt off. I called the host, and an angry woman showed up to take us to the room. She seemed more like a caretaker and was rude whenever she was around. The place also looked nothing like the photos. It was a traditional building, but the room was smaller than expected and had a moldy, unpleasant smell. Even with the windows open, the “bright room” felt like Batman’s cave. A rug was being used as a cheap curtain, and the wallpaper was dirty, rippled, and peeling away. The room had been cleaned, but it looked like maintenance had been neglected for many years. The bathroom was cramped, with loose fixtures that seemed to have been patched up as a DIY job. We were ready for a “nomad” experience, but this was more than we expected. Better to pay more for somewhere else than let a place like this spoil your trip to South Korea. 🙁

We spent three nights here and had a pleasant stay. It was quiet and close to everything, and I’d come back. The room had a TV, thin mattresses, blankets, toiletries, toilet paper, and towels. I liked the pillows, and my Korean boyfriend even enjoyed the wooden pillow. There was a slight smell in the bathroom, though it probably came from outside.

There’s a small canteen with coffee, water, and tea, plus a simple breakfast spread left in the fridge each morning. Golmokgil is in a quiet corner of Jeonju's hanok village, and the host was enthusiastic and accommodating, so check-in was easy. The room was tiny but spotless. There aren’t any “western” beds, but sleeping on the floor felt comfortable and refreshing in the summer heat. A lovely little guesthouse if you want a quiet room in Jeonju. I’d recommend Golmokgil.

The owner was really friendly, even though he speaks very little English. We just used Google Translate :-) The room and the rest of the guesthouse were clean and nice, and they provided coffee and a simple breakfast. It’s worth staying if you want to try sleeping in a hanok house.

The place is spacious, and they don’t charge extra for additional guests, which made it a great choice for going with the kids. There’s even a separate annex, and plenty of the equipment and supplies you need. There are lots of places to park nearby. As for soundproofing, giving that up to some extent is just part of staying in Hanok Village. The photo is of Pungnammun blood sausage, a 10-minute walk from the accommodation. Recommended.
