Galaxy Hotel

The room was huge, and getting to the beach was as simple as walking across the street. We had three lovely nights here. Breakfast was good, all Korean food!

I wouldn't come back. The pictures were misleading, and this didn't feel like a three-star hotel, maybe a two-star place or a three-star motel. It was an unwelcoming stay, and there were no amenities, so bring your own toiletries. The room was tiny, with nowhere for luggage or clothes, and the mattress was so uncomfortable I could feel the springs poking through. I understood the modern idea of putting the bathtub in the room, but it took up most of the space. I didn't use it because I thought it might make the whole room steamy and leave my clothes damp. The two old chairs in the sitting area were uncomfortable too. I asked about upgrading, and they wanted an extra $100 per night. For four nights that meant $400, and I was pressured to decide right away in case the room was gone. I was there on a weekday in the off-season, so that made no sense to me. The part-time front desk worker who checked me in was nice and said checkout was at noon, which I thought was great. On departure day, a different part-timer told me checkout was 11am. I wish they'd given me consistent information. Pohang was nice, but this place wasn't.

We had two adults and three kids, and our room worked perfectly: a double bed, two traditional Korean floor futon beds, and two bathrooms. It was easy to find, right across from the beach, with lots of nearby places to eat, including chicken, seafood, and McDonald's. There was a mini fridge with free water, a separate cosmetics fridge, and tea and coffee with an electric kettle. The downside was no parking. We left the car on the street on the other side of the hotel, away from the beach.

The location is excellent, and we'd stay again, though the late-night party crowd nearby can get noisy. The rooms were tidy and service was good. The friendly staff tried hard to communicate in English, but there was only limited English in this city. The carpets need a thorough cleaning, and the air conditioning didn't do a very good job of reaching the temperature we wanted.
