Boutique Hotel YOUNG-Inn

The room was a decent size for a comfortable bed and pillows, and the hotel’s central location made it easy for us to get around by public transport. WiFi was good. The hotel is at the top of a hill, though. Chungmuro is the closest station, about a 5-10 minute walk through Namsangol Hanok Village, which is worth seeing. The garage entrance is easier because you can take the lift to reception on floor 2 instead of using the stairs. The walk is uphill and can be a bit of a workout. Myeongdong station is farther away, a 20-25 minute uphill walk. The room and bathroom had several problems. The room felt dated and needed freshening up, with scuffed, dirty wallpaper and no headboard. There was only one plug, plus an extension screwed to the table close to the wall, which limited where we could plug things in. The room also had very little sound insulation. We could hear everything from next door, including people coming and going and a “7-11 type” tune each time someone removed their key from the power slot. The bathroom was very small, about 1.2m square, and seemed poorly designed and maintained. The tiny basin was held to the wall with mastic, tilted so it didn’t drain properly. We couldn’t fit the kettle between the tap and basin to fill it. The shower mixer, hose, and head were directly above the sink, with a shower curtain in the middle of the bathroom. That setup was ridiculous and funny, but left very little room to shower, even for me, and I’m not a big guy. There were no hooks or shelves for towels or personal items. The glass door wouldn’t close properly or keep bathroom noise in. We were on the fifth floor, and discarded or stored laundry was piled in the stairwells on every floor down to the ground, partially blocking the route. It may be used as a fire exit. Breakfast was mentioned in our booking, but there wasn’t any. I’d question the ratings this hotel gets on some sites, as they’re misleading. For a budget hotel, it’s just about okay. Given our experience, a rating of 6 seems more realistic. Sorry, it wasn’t a great stay.
