D.A.L Premium Capsule Hotel

The free washer and dryer were a big plus, and the shared spaces were nicely done. There’s an espresso machine, vending machines, simple breakfast choices, calming music, and a rooftop that would probably be especially nice in summer. D.A.L. Premium Capsule Hotel looks modern and appealing, and the common areas are well designed. Sleep was the weak point. Light from outside the capsules comes through the curtains all night, making it hard to get proper rest even though the bed is comfortable. It also seems to keep people talking late in the common hall. There’s no fan or proper airflow in the capsules either, which is a letdown for somewhere calling itself “premium.” The design and amenities are good, but the lighting and ventilation really get in the way of sleeping.

The bed was soft, the pillow fluffy, and I could use the washing machine for free. The housekeeping supervisor was also very helpful and carried my large suitcase downstairs at checkout. The owner let a guest sleep over during housekeeping hours, which was a plus. Still, I found this place overpriced for what it offers and where it is. The building is old with no lift, though the inside has been refurbished. It’s in an unpleasant alley by the flea market and small dry cleaners. There were snores in the female dorm too. You have to haul your luggage up steep stairs to the third floor. The lounge is tiny, basically a dining table and small Korean wooden seats. There’s a rooftop, but it was too cold to use. The ground floor door lets cold air into the lounge, and even with the music off it gets very noisy. The lantern-shaped lighting looks nice, but it leaves a dim light in your capsule overnight. They should provide proper bath towels instead of face towels. I’d suggest a 2 or 3 star hotel instead.

The staff were welcoming and always willing to help, and the location was good. I found the hostel beautiful, clean, quiet, and private. They also supplied towels, toothbrushes, and a few other little necessities, which was nice. I had a great stay last month and would definitely come back when I visit Seoul.

There’s a rooftop ramen spot where you can cook it yourself. The room was clean and tidy.
