Dongdaemun House

The entrance was hard to find. The front wasn't the entrance, and getting around through an alley to the back felt sketchy. The room was filthy, smelly, and full of spiders and cobwebs, with black mold too. We stayed just a couple of hours while looking for another hotel. They offered to "clean" the room, but I couldn't imagine how much better it could be overnight. We had to pay for two hotels during our two-week trip because they refused to refund us. I wouldn't risk staying here, and hope this saves someone trouble.

We left the room right away after taking photos, hoping to get our money back. A month later, I'm still waiting for the refund. The building already felt uncomfortable on entry, with worn corridors and poor lighting; it looked like an abandoned horror movie set. The room smelled so strongly of mold and mildew that breathing felt impossible, and staying overnight seemed unsafe. Floors were sticky, hair was scattered everywhere, the bathtub was filthy, and the walls were worn. There was dirt, mold, bugs, and a stench throughout. Later we met a facility worker who seemed under the influence, and it was very difficult to communicate with him. I can't believe a place like this can still operate in Korea, where hotels have to meet certain requirements. I hope someone investigates. If you don't want to lose your money, run.

The bed was comfortable, and the room was tiny but fine for sleeping. The bathroom smelled awful. It's safe, with a subway station just 100m away, and works if you'll be out all day.

Do yourself a favour and skip booking here. The rooms are mouldy and unclean, with hairs on the bed, and the hallways are dusty.
