H Avenue Hotel Idae Shinchon

The bed and pillow were comfortable, and the staff were really nice and helpful. But the hotel itself was bad. There was a lot of mold in our room, so we asked to move. The next room had less mold, at least. Strong cleaning chemicals left it smelling awful at first, and the place was somewhat dirty too. Breakfast was limited to eggs, noodles, cereal, butter and jam, and bananas. The sign at the entrance says two stars, not three. The photos are from the room with less mold.

The bathroom was cramped, the water pressure was low, and the hot water kept turning cold while I showered. Housekeeping also missed things. My room on the 8th floor was dim, with little natural light, and the hotel felt dated. Even the elevator made strange noises. The stay didn’t meet expectations, and I wouldn’t recommend it.

The room looked nothing like the photos, and it was dirty, with scratches, drawings, and hair on the furniture and an unclean floor. There was no place to store clothes, the bathroom was moldy, and large bottles of cleaning supplies sat in the room’s corner. The lobby was disorganized, with rubbish bags scattered around, and lobby staff were often absent during our visit. The plaque outside says two stars, not the three listed on most websites. Once inside, that seemed understandable. Extremely disappointing.

The room felt old, and cleaning hadn’t been thorough. With the bare concrete floor, we could still see hair left by previous guests. The bed, though, was very soft and comfortable. We paid mostly for the convenient location, about a five-minute walk from the subway and easy to find beside a main road. That road can bring traffic noise if the window is open, and the thin walls let us hear doors from nearby rooms. Bring earplugs if you’re sensitive to noise. Check-in was at 4 PM and checkout by 10 AM, which felt too early. Check the details beforehand. They do offer luggage storage after checkout. For the price, the cleanliness was a letdown, and it didn’t feel like good value. We weren’t deeply disappointed, but weren’t impressed either, and probably wouldn’t stay again.
