Hotel Yaja Jongno

The location was such a win, about a 30 second walk to the subway, with a tourist spot right behind the hotel. It’s also in a local drinking area, so people are around most nights. Korean people seemed focused on their drinks and friends, and we didn’t worry much about walking there. We only found this place after getting scammed at the “airbnb” next door and having to switch quickly, but it turned out better than I expected. The room was spacious, had computers for watching movies online, and the staff cleaned it every day. They had a heater ready for winter, an ice maker, and really friendly staff who greeted us warmly. We got it for a very cheap price.

I was happy with how close it was to the metro, less than five minutes away, and to a great area for food with tons of options nearby. The room was clean, comfortable, and a good size. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout, and the free extras were a nice surprise: drinks, snacks, a gown, and an amenities kit.

This place was nothing short of a scam. I booked through trip.com because it looked nice, the price seemed reasonable, and the reviews weren’t terrible. But the hotel was unbelievably filthy and smelled awful, and strangers could walk in and out without anyone checking them. I had to leave and find another hotel at the last minute, for several times more money. The stress and mental distress it caused were unacceptable. Don’t fall for it. I asked trip.com to remove it from the platform. It doesn’t deserve even one star. I wish I could give zero.

The bed was seriously uncomfortable, which was the main downside. Still, the location near the main tourist spots was great, the rooms were cleaned daily, and they even included free snacks. Staff were a little reserved, but for the area and the extras, it wasn’t too bad.
