Jongno The Post Hotel

We left after one night, even though we’d paid over $900 AUD for three. The rooms were dirty, the area and view were horrible, and we felt uncomfortable as soon as we entered the building. Service was really poor, too. When we told the man at reception we were unhappy, he didn’t seem to care at all. We contacted booking.com several times to ask for compensation because the listing felt misleading, but got no reply. It was frustrating and disappointing. We moved to New Blanc Central Myeongdong for the next two nights, and it was unbelievably better at a third of the price. I highly recommend that hotel instead. This place shouldn’t be rated so highly on booking.com. Save your money. I wish I could give it less than one star.

Everything was good, and I didn’t have any real complaints. The only minor issue was waiting a while for the hot water to come through.

The bathroom felt unsafe and poorly laid out. Its door was almost transparent, the floor got slippery with no anti-slip mat, and there was no shower screen, so water ended up everywhere, including on the toilet paper. There was nowhere to keep towels dry. The powered toilet seat with a warmer concerned me in the wet, foggy bathroom after a hot shower, and the setup felt like it could lead to a bad fall or an electrical hazard. They gave us hand towels to use on the floor. The bath towels were yellowish and old, so fortunately we had brought our own. The mattress was stained, visible through a yellowish bedsheet. It’s a short walk to the metro, but getting there means walking through a shady alley, which didn’t feel great when returning late. At almost $130 a night, it wasn’t worth the money.

The rooms were spacious, the beds and pillows very comfortable, and there were outlets for plenty of devices. The large smart TV had Netflix, Disney and YouTube. Bottled water was restocked in the fridge daily, with more available for free in the lobby. Staff were very friendly and helped unload, hold and load our many bags to and from the taxi. The towels were soft, fresh-smelling and did the job. One of our two rooms had very dim lighting, and there was no hand soap. The shower floor can be slippery, though sandals help, and they provide some if you don’t have your own. Water does get around the bathroom, but shouldn’t reach the toilet much unless you’re really going wild with the shower. The area was easy to get around on foot, with good coffee and kimpap nearby, McDonald’s and two subway stations just minutes away. There were lots of smoking areas, though I don’t think that’s true everywhere in Korea. We loved this location.
