K-Grand Hostel Myeongdong

The place is now called Oyo Hostel myeongdong 1. I found the staff utterly hopeless, and there were problems with the room, safety, and basic service. Please read this before booking. On arrival, towels weren’t provided as claimed. They left four hand towels on the bed, and wanted a 10000KRW deposit for more. An adaptor also required a deposit. My room was advertised on Agoda as 16sqm, but seemed barely 10sqm including the bathroom. It was filthy, with dust and rust everywhere. The towel rack wasn’t secured properly either. I put two bath towels on it and it fell, so I had to fix it myself. The check-in setup after 10pm was alarming. There was no verification: they left key cards and welcome letters showing guests’ full names and dates of stay on the counter with nobody around. Anyone could take one and get into a room. Staff weren’t on site after 10pm, which also left no clear help in a fire or medical emergency. One night I returned after 10pm and found the toilet locked from the inside. I couldn’t use it for the rest of the night, and nobody was there. The staff didn’t respond to the text emergency number, then tried to blame us after checkout. It’s centrally located, but above a restaurant where I measured the music at 140 decibels, making rest difficult. The so-called breakfast was plain bread and jam. I paid about US100 a night and found the standard worse than €5 hostels in Europe. Don’t expect amenities or service. Utter disappointment, and I’ll never return. Absolutely garbage of a place, avoid it unless you want your trip ruined.
