I was so glad this incredible Hanok Hotel came onto my radar, even though I’m not sure how I found it. Nostalgia has six Hanok’s, with a seventh planned for 2026, and each one has been carefully renovated to blend old and new design. For my first Seoul trip, I stayed three nights at Nook Jae, the smallest Hanok, meant for two. It was beautiful and wonderfully peaceful. Waking up to the Swallows in the garden was lovely. The concierge made me feel welcome, and the personal service was amazing. I appreciated the welcome Makgeolli from the hotel’s Bukchon Brewery. I’d catch my uber there and have nice chats with the concierge while I waited. The village sits between Gyeongbokgung and Changgyeonggung, offering a quiet break from the busy city. Tourists can’t be in Bukchon Hanok village between 5pm-10am, so staying in the village itself is a great way to enjoy its beauty without the crowds. There are guards around, so keep your noise down. Anguk subway train station is a 10-15 min walk from Nook Jae. From the Nostalgia Welcome Center, it’s uphill to the Hanok, though suitcase transport is available. I used the fridge, coffee maker, sparkling and still water, iron, A/C, slippers, and foot therapy bath. The bath was refreshing after a long day walking in the sun. I only wished the iron was full-sized. I didn’t visit the gift shop, Kart Cart, or have time to try Bukchon ONE cafe.

Hiddenjae at Nostalgia is tucked into Bukchon’s quiet alleys and felt like finding a secret garden in Seoul. The space is understated but refined, with a sense of luxury and Korea’s rich heritage. My peaceful hanok stay gave me a chance to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with myself. A lovely spot for anyone wanting a little stillness amid the city’s pace.

One night at Nostalgia Hillojae was the most peaceful and elegant stay I’ve had in Korea. Tucked away in central Seoul, this serene hanok retreat felt like stepping back in time. It brings understated luxury together with living heritage and a fresh take on Korea’s timeless charm. I’d highly recommend it if you want to experience Korean aesthetics and heartfelt hospitality.

Nookjae is small, but it never felt lacking. The details are thoughtful and the pace is calm, with a warmth that makes the hanok feel like a little hideaway for two. It reminded us that a luxurious stay can come from feeling close and present, not from having lots of space.

Nostalgia has several hanoks, and they each have a different size and feel, so check the website and choose the one that suits you. This is a new hanok hotel built in 2022, right in central Seoul, which made getting around for sightseeing easy. The staff were kind, and the facilities were good: two rooms, two bathrooms, simple cooking utensils, a refrigerator, and free Wi-Fi. I’d come back next time.
