Windroad Guesthouse

Absolutely horrible, and not worth the money. The rooms were crammed and under-equipped, and the facilities weren't clean. My friends had already stayed two nights when I came to join them. I waited inside for the host to arrive while it was raining, then got a stream of disgusting curses and was falsely accused of breaking the entrance door. My friends were kicked out afterward. The day before, the host had nearly fought with another Italian tourist, cursed him, and told him to come outside and fight. Spend another 2-3 bucks for somewhere nicer with nicer staff.

The location is decent and the price is cheap, but the hosts are the problem. In my opinion, the manager and owner should work outside hospitality. They were harsh and unkind every day of my three-day stay. Three guests left, and one Russian girl was so upset and scared that she went to the police. I tried to ignore it, but eventually I also had an argument, nearly a fight, over trivial things. Other guesthouses are fully booked while only a few people stay here, and I think there must be a reason. If you're traveling to have fun, I'd choose somewhere better.

I stayed for 11 nights, and the manager woke me at ridiculous hours, so don't count on getting sleep. Police came five times to sort out disputes with the manager. It's very cheap, and you can make some good friends there. The breakfast is only jam on toast, and it isn't put out until 9:30. There's just a tiny amount, so if you arrive too late or it runs out, that's it, no food for you.

The price is good, and the owner is a lovely man. It might do in a pinch, but my stay was pretty lousy. There was just one bathroom for everyone in the room, and the shower didn't work at all. I found out the hard way when I was short on time, stuck on the floor under a spigot with lukewarm or cold water, trying to wash my hair. Hard to get past that. You get what you pay for, I guess.
