They do exchange used towels for fresh ones if you bring them to the front desk. But I was caught off guard about breakfast: blogs and reviews said it was included, while the desk told me there wasn’t any. They also said there was no Korean restaurant, and it seems there’s no restaurant at all. I was shocked when I went out looking for breakfast. Then the convenience store had run out of water, which left me in a real bind.

For an inexpensive night or two with family, this can work well, especially if you want to visit the nearby attractions. Cheoksan Hot Springs and Seorak Waterpia are close, and Nohak-dong (Haksapyeong) Sundubu Street is about a five-minute drive away. Sokcho city center takes around 15 minutes by taxi. The property sits at the foot of Seoraksan Mountain in Nohak-dong, Sokcho-si, Gangwon-do. It used to be called Hyundai Family Town and was a popular spot for university orientations and retreats. These days it’s known for affordable rooms. It feels more like an old condo than a resort, and the facilities are dated, with only minor renovations.

There’s fresh air and it’s quiet out on the edge of Sokcho, so it works if all you need is somewhere peaceful to sleep. The price is low, though there’s a reason for that. Just one of the two buildings is in use, and aside from the convenience store downstairs, there’s very little in the way of amenities.

The place is old and really due for remodeling, but the rooms are spacious and the facilities were fairly clean. If you keep your expectations modest, it’s comfortable and convenient for the price. I liked the distant view of Ulsanbawi Rock, and the noise from passing cars didn’t keep me awake. Sokcho Beach is about a ten-minute drive away, and a taxi into downtown Sokcho costs around 10,000 won. The chapel, karaoke room, and bowling alley are in the basement. The chapel on the first basement floor seems to have the most modern facilities and rents for about 100,000 won. There’s also a gas range, refrigerator, rice cooker, and a TV that works well. If you’re getting bothered by mosquitoes, you can ask for a housekeeper. The bathroom water wasn’t very hot, and there was a leak and not enough outlets, but the blankets and towels were clean and supplied well.
