Anook Ryokan Hotel Suwon

We left by 0530 after waking at 0430 because the room smelled so strongly of mold, especially the bathroom. It stung our nostrils. Opening windows on both sides, spraying perfume, and blocking the drain didn't help. The Tatami mats were old, stained, warped, and probably moldy too. We didn't ask for another room because we checked in late, went out for a late dinner, and got back pretty late and drunk. By then the receptionist was gone, so we were stuck with the smell. The receptionist was kind and professional at check-in, and the location was acceptable, with convenience stores and restaurants nearby. The term Ryokan brings to mind Tatami mat rooms, baths, and multi course Japanese meals, none of which this motel, as I'd call it, offered. There wasn't even a simple breakfast. That's not the main issue, though. If they dealt with the moldy stink and replaced the dirty, warped Tatami matts, this place could be a top contender.
