The reception staff were genuinely nice and helpful, and the photos make the shared areas look beautiful and modern. But during more than five months of backpacking, this was my worst “hostel” stay. It felt like a low-cost local long-term rental mixed with a chaotic dorm, not an international place for backpackers to meet and socialize. Most guests seemed to be local long-term residents who treated it like home. The corridors and common spaces were cluttered with random belongings. Rooms smelled heavily of body odor, unwashed clothes and shoes, and cigarette smoke. Smoking isn't allowed indoors, but people came back smelling of it. Sleep schedules were upside down. The floor was silent during the day while people slept, then from 10 PM until 4-5 AM people sat at desks watching movies, gaming, browsing, and chatting. Some set very loud morning alarms and slept through them or didn't bother switching them off, so they could ring for up to an hour. On February 19, 2026, I finally lost my temper after an alarm had been blaring for nearly 20 minutes around 8 a.m. The guy, a local Kazakh man, had been watching movies at the desk until 5 a.m. instead of sleeping in his bed. I opened the curtain to wake him and angrily said something like, “If you can't get up, don't set an alarm that wakes the whole room.” We traded a few insults. He didn't apologize. He got furious, jumped out of bed, shoved me hard back onto the bed, and squared up as if he wanted to fight. He had been disturbing everyone, yet acted like he was the victim when I woke him. Management seems to let long-term locals stay without any filtering, leaving short-term travelers, especially foreigners, feeling like outsiders who have to adapt to the residents' chaotic routines. The low-quality local guy is in Room 3, bed 20, and seems to live there long term. Avoid Room 3 if possible. To repeat, don't let the nice photos fool you if you're a short-term traveler or foreigner. This isn't a proper youth hostel for international backpackers. It's a low-budget, long-stay local chaos dorm. Pay a bit more and stay elsewhere. It isn't worth losing your trip, mood, or sleep. The kind reception staff can't make up for the disastrous living conditions. I hope this review saves someone else the same awful experience.

The kitchen was large and comfortable, and the bathrooms felt like having your own hotel room. Everything was clean all the time, and the beds were very comfortable with wonderfully soft sheets. The location was excellent. I stayed two extra nights and felt sad to leave. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. On arrival, Anella helped me sort out a taxi driver fiasco, and when I left, Aiym helped with the bus and other information. Manager Nazgul cared for me and helped throughout my stay, including making sure I got on the bus. She also connected me with a great tour that was better and cheaper than the one I had found. They couldn't have been nicer. One of the nicest hostels I've stayed at. Highly recommend it, and thank you!

The hostel is very conveniently next to Dostyk Mall, and the beds look new and seem quite comfortable. But they turn off the AC in summer and refused to leave it on. There are many long-term guests, and the rooms are disorganized, with personal luggage and even thick coats left lying around. I wouldn't recommend staying here, especially in summer.

The common living room is nice, and the place is fairly clean. But the dorm stay was unpleasant. Some long-term guests were loud at night, switching on the main light, taking phone calls around 1 a.m., playing TikToks aloud, and making noise while others were trying to sleep. Staff didn’t step in. The dorm Wi-Fi failed every day of my six-day stay, and no one seemed concerned about fixing it. Several toilets often had no soap or paper. Drinking water was available for the first two days, then they removed the dispenser, apparently to save money. There wasn’t even free coffee or a kitchen for preparing food. I wouldn’t come back or recommend it.

There’s hardly any hostel atmosphere here. Most guests seemed to be long-term residents, and some acted as if the place belonged to them. At night, people turned on the bright lights, watched videos without headphones, and talked on their phones in the room. Staff didn’t help. One night at 2 a.m., an administrator came in with her children and woke me by yelling. Staff sometimes didn’t follow the rules themselves. The design and location are fine, and it was reasonably clean, though my room wasn’t cleaned during the three days I was there. Drinking water and tea were available. I stayed six nights and never had even a warm shower. The AC leaked water, so there was always a bucket beneath it, with drops making an annoying sound.
