Altyn-Adam Hotel

The prices feel international, while the infrastructure feels local.

For very little money, I got a clean, spacious room, though this certainly isn't a Shagri-La or Mandarin Oriental. I was in room 204. The furniture badly needs replacing, but the mattress was just the right firmness for me and very comfortable. The linens were clean, and while the towels weren't new, they were well washed. The air conditioning worked perfectly, and the room was clean inside and out, which you could see. There wasn't a kettle at first, but when I asked, they gave me a large, clean one. The bathroom had a fairly spacious shower stall, although getting over the threshold was a bit of a climb. The old, worn shower head should be replaced. It wouldn't cost much and would make the shower much nicer. Hot water in the shower was good, but the sink had a hot-water issue. Breakfast was cooked to order, with scrambled eggs, omelette, or porridge. They served it with sliced sausage, cheese, cucumbers, and tomatoes, plus a tasty dessert, either cake or pancakes with condensed milk. The teapot tea was delicious, and my scrambled eggs were perfectly cooked every day. The woman in the cafe was exceptionally friendly and attentive, as were all the hotel staff I met. Shops, restaurants, and other amenities are within walking distance, and the bus stop is about 30 meters away. The hotel does need renovation, but I came away with a positive impression.

The room was clean and had what I needed for the price, and the buses made it easy for me to get to the city center. Breakfast was tasty and filling, and the service was good. The woman at reception was so kind that she helped me get a kettle in the middle of the night. Aruzhan Apai was welcoming at breakfast too.
