Thaveesinh Hotel

The balcony had a wonderful view, and the woman who seems to own the hotel was lovely, friendly, helpful, and spoke excellent English. To the hotel’s right there’s a great place for delicious food. I recommend trying the Lao dishes and Lao Khao Soi, and the prices are very reasonable. I stayed for two days, and both the hotel and my room were clean and pleasant. The bed is quite firm, so it may not suit everyone, but I like that and slept comfortably. The blanket was very warm, and there was plenty of hot water, towels, water, and other toiletries. Thank you ☺️

The owner of the shop speaks fluent English and Chinese, but I felt she used those language skills to rip off tourists. She charged several times to ten times what things cost elsewhere in town. Don’t exchange money here, it costs 20% more than at the border crossing.

The women running the place were lovely and really helpful. We booked the slow boat and got a SIM as soon as we arrived at the hostel, which was so easy. There’s a terrace where you can watch the sunset across the river. There’s nowhere to sit up there, so we sat on the floor, and it was one of the most beautiful sunsets I’ve ever seen. The room was dated and tired, but the shower was hot and the bed was comfy. We could see the morning alms giving from our window, and they had coffee, bananas, and crackers in the morning too. A great place to stay before the slow boat :)

The ladies who run the place are lovely, and you can see the monks come by for almsgiving in the morning. It’s right opposite the gibbon experience office. The hotel is very basic, but has aircon and hot water. It was kinda clean, although the furniture is old and shabby, and some of it was broken. There was black mould on our room’s ceiling. The road isn’t too noisy, but dogs bark all night, though we know that can happen anywhere. Ask for a room at the side or back.
