Golden Hotel Dondet

The pool was large, clean, and right outside our room, which was probably their best one. The river view was lovely, especially at sunset. But at €50 a night, the quality didn’t feel worth the price, even if we may have been the only guests then. The room was extremely dirty: dusty surfaces and decorative pillows, stained towels and curtains, a broken, badly stained toilet seat, and dirt on the walls and doors. There was even dirt and a used band-aid on the trashcan lid. They really need to deep-clean the rooms and replace the toilet seats. If the towels can’t be washed clean, they should use darker ones. I wiped down the surfaces with the foot-towel and showed it to the staff, but nobody apologized. The staff mostly didn’t speak English and weren’t especially friendly, though the owner/manager was helpful and friendly. The room wasn’t cleaned unless we asked, and we had to request toilet paper, water, and towels each time. Rooms should be cleaned every day.

We paid about $35 for a huge, quiet, comfortable room, and I’d happily stay here again. It had everything we needed, including hot showers and good air conditioning, and the pool was clean. The staff were friendly, though they spoke almost no English. Breakfast wasn’t quite European standard, but it was fine.

A calm place to unwind, with lots of attractions nearby. The hotel is in a great location and easy to get to.
