The place is simple, and the staff are friendly. In the off season I paid 50,000 kip for a clean room with a fan, hot shower, fresh sheets and pillows, plus an exhaust fan for airflow. It’s right across from the night market and about a five minute walk from the morning market. WiFi and drinking water are free. They can also sort out onward bus tickets and tuk tuk pickup. The TV didn’t work, but I wasn’t planning to watch it anyway.
It’s very clean and costs 60,000 kip a night, so it’s good value. Book a jungle trekking tour with them and you get a night there for free. I’d recommend it without hesitation.
We were told there was no direct ticket to Phongsaly and that we had to go through Muang Xai first, so we bought tickets to Muang Xai. At the bus station, we found out there was a direct bus after all. We managed to change our tickets there, but lost 60,000 kip, which the owner kept as his fee. Be careful, tickets at the bus station are much cheaper. He seems to sell the route that gives him the best margin, rather than the best itinerary.
A handy spot for backpackers, with fair prices and friendly staff. It’s well located, and if you book a tour through them, your stay is free.
Paid 70,000 kip. No hot shower or air conditioning, and the TV was broken.
