Jing Land Hotel Luang Prabang

Breakfast was a highlight. Some mornings it was made to order and others had a buffet, with both Western and local choices every day. We ate well, and the Lao coffee was delicious. The staff were very nice and spoke English well. Our room rate included airport transfers, and the ride takes about 15 or 20 minutes. The hotel was spotless inside, though some areas could use maintenance, including the pool and parts of the landscaping. There’s no bar, spa, or room service, though plenty of those are nearby. We still thought it was excellent value and would stay again and recommend it to friends. The location worked really well for us, in central Luang Prabang and just a block from the night market. It’s an easy walk to the museum, the steps up Mt Phousi, riverside restaurants and bars, and many of the Wats. The building feels like a converted mansion, with high ceilings and lovely entrances. Our room was spacious, clean, and quiet, with a very comfortable king bed, shower and tub, air conditioning, a safe, and a mini fridge. There were lots of large towels, robes, slippers, and bottled water. The hotel sits on a small hill at the southern base of Mt Phousi. The gently sloping road is about 200 meters up from the main street, and easy to walk. Some reviews complain about the hill, but it gave us views of the city and mountains and kept us above the street noise.

I wandered in by accident to enjoy the view. There were no signs saying it was private property, just a building that looked somewhat abandoned. Then rude staff appeared. I ordered a small beer to keep things peaceful, but the behavior was still strange, especially from the “manager.” The drink prices were ridiculous, even compared with some well-known top-notch places in Luang Prabang. Money isn’t the point of this review. Avoid the place, it’s not worth the hassle.

They raised my price by $60 at checkout after refusing to honor my Agoda rate. The reception staff seemed completely uninterested, nobody helped with bags, and the hotel offered no assistance when guests arrived or left. It’s also in an extremely inconvenient spot at the top of a very steep hill. This place was a disaster for more reasons than I can fit here. There are many better options in Luang Prabang. Avoid it.

It has a nice old-fashioned feel and is close to the tourist area, but getting up the hill can be a strain.
