Kamu Lodge

We had a lovely time with Olivier, the manager, who told us about life in the two villages around Kamu Lodge. The place is beautiful and unspoiled, away from the hustle and bustle, so you can take your time. It felt wonderful. 🙃

It was a completely positive experience: magnificent and incredibly peaceful, with thoughtful layout that never felt excessive. The people were charming, the food was good, and discovering the nature and plants was wonderful. Bring walking shoes. If you go, remember to bring clothes or something to write with for the Kamu children from the neighboring village, and some sweets.

The tents are set up like military camping, but each one is self-contained and has adequate amenities. Electricity and water should be used sparingly. The villagers are poor, yet very hospitable and honest, and the owner employs local people. The resort is an isolated village beside the Mekong River, about two hours by boat from Luang Prabang. All services are on the grounds, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with several takeout options. Activities include rice farming, archery, and net fishing. You can also visit a temple and several riverside villages known for rice wine brewing and scarf weaving. Two days and two nights are enough to experience the area. I plan to come back in a few years and see what has changed.
