Meet Sunset Hostel Luang Prabang

The owners are very kind, and breakfast is simple, just eggs and fruit. I stayed four nights. The balcony is lovely for sunset, though the water isn’t very close and you can only see it from there. The shower and AC were good. It’d be nice if they left a couple of water bottles outside the room, but they’ll give you more if you ask. I rented a scooter and it broke down. I called several times with no answer for 30 minutes, then messaged on WhatsApp and got a reply. It took another 30 minutes for them to bring me a different scooter.

I wanted somewhere calm, and this quiet hostel was a good fit, though it’s less social. It’s away from the main center’s bustle, but the walk is enjoyable. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, including with my heavy luggage. Breakfast was small but tasty.

We stayed two nights in a very clean private room. It smelled lovely, the bed was comfortable, and the Mekong River view was lovely. Everyone on staff was welcoming, chatty, and so helpful. We booked a few things through them and everything went well. The property is on the other side of the river, about five minutes by taxi or a half-hour walk, which was fine for us. It was a great stay and I’d definitely recommend it.

We felt safe and at home here, and it was nice to stay somewhere quieter, with convenience shops on the street. The location is around a 25-minute walk over a very rickety bridge to the main center. It felt like the walkway might give way any minute, so this may not suit you if crossing it doesn’t appeal. The staff were really welcoming, attentive, and always smiling. We had eggs on toast each day, with fried, omelette, or scrambled eggs to choose from, plus fresh fruit and coffee. You can sit on the terrace by the river. Our room was fine, with a nice front balcony, though the shower was a bit naff and there were lots of cobwebs. Not a big deal for us.
