Oudomlith Guesthouse

It's a small, simple hotel rather than a fancy one, but it felt like home. Our room was large and comfortable, and the location was great. Transportation, laundry, and tours can be arranged at a good price. We also enjoyed talking with locals at Mouse Reading and English school next door. The service was the standout, especially Keota. She's one of the most pleasant and genuine people I've met. She worked so hard and made our stay lovely, always smiling and showing real care. I hope she gets to own or run a bunch of hotels someday. As we always say, if you feel sad to leave a place, it was a good one.

This stay was a major disappointment. We booked two nights in Luang Prabang, but on arrival the manager said the property was overbooked and offered to move us to one of his other hotels. The booking app still showed availability that day, but I agreed because the manager seemed friendly and promised a larger room. The replacement was small and gloomy. It was on the first floor, the windows couldn't be opened, and its street-side balcony was right beside garbage bins. When I said the room wasn't acceptable, the manager refused to help. He said I'd already agreed to move and that cancelling meant no refund. We argued, and he even admitted that photos on the booking site might show different rooms. I later found that many other guests had faced the same issue. Be aware that your reservation may not be honored, and the online photos may show a different room type from the one you receive. Please consider your options carefully before booking.

I booked five days and ended up staying 20. I'd planned to move to the other end of town, but there was no point. Lynn, the manager, was endlessly helpful, even when my plans were delayed. The rooms are big and spotlessly clean, and the breakfasts were better than many I've had in town. It's central to all the important places. The outside area looked small at first, but it stays blissfully cool in the heat of the day. Day staff and cleaning staff are just as pleasant. Bathrooms are spacious, with a modern shower that has several settings and plenty of hot water. For an old girl like me, the proper floor tiles in the bathroom matter a lot, they're much safer than slippery wall tiles used on floors in many places. I'll stay at Udomlith next year and beyond.

We booked and paid for a specific room, clearly confirmed and not cheap, but on arrival were given a smaller, older room with fewer amenities and a lower tier feel. In my opinion, calling that an upgrade was a lie. An upgrade should be better, not a downgrade. I checked the app and saw rooms were still available. We'd planned this family holiday for months and were traveling with kids, hoping for a special, relaxing time. Instead, the room was cramped, noisy, and not what we'd booked. We spent the first day arguing with staff to get what we paid for, then felt cheated and disappointed for the rest of the trip. It ruined our vacation in LPB and left a bitter taste on what should have been a beautiful trip. I don't usually write reviews, but I want others to avoid the same mistake. Never again, this place was a disgrace. Do not stay here. If they did this to us, they may do it to you. Save yourself the stress and find somewhere with honesty and respect for guests.
