The best part of our stay was the service from the owner, Eric. He gave us good recommendations for affordable restaurants nearby and went out of his way to help when our Loca driver cancelled. The driver had arrived but parked 20-30m past the guesthouse entrance, so we didn’t know he was there until I checked the app. When I was about to run over, he cancelled and drove off. Eric and his staff went out on a motorbike and found us a tuk tuk / trike taxi. Outstanding help, and I wholeheartedly recommend View Khemkhon guesthouse. Our room was small, but the queen-sized bed was enough for a couple. The location is excellent, facing the Mekong River in Luang Prabang’s historic quarter. We heard loud motorcycles now and then, but still had a peaceful rest. It’s a 10-minute walk to the daily night market and the cheap “food court.” There’s no kettle in the room, but a hot and cold water dispenser and free Nescafe and Lipton tea are available by reception.

Eric made the stay especially nice. He’s warm, enthusiastic, and quick to help. The guest house was spotless and comfortable, with a great aircon, a hot shower with good pressure, and high-quality bedding. I’d happily book it again when I’m back in Luang Prabang.

Be careful where you book this guesthouse. It only accepts reservations through agoda or booking.com. Other sites, including expedia, hotels.com, and trip.com, may list rooms without an agreement or account with the property. Even if they charge you, you might arrive and find there’s no room for you.

Penny the Cat and Eric the Human helped make our stay a lot of fun. My wife and I had a booking problem, and they sorted it out in a way that saved us quite a bit, even though they didn’t have to. The room was clean and lovely, and anything else that came up was dealt with promptly. It’s in a superb spot for a very good price. 10 stars out of 5!

The owner was really kind, and the location is great. But even when we stayed two nights or longer, the towels weren’t changed and the room wasn’t cleaned. That was disappointing.
