Villa Chitdara

I had a room facing the street, but the double shutters and windows blocked the noise and light really well. The fridge kept my drinks very cold. The bed was quite firm, though that seems normal in South-East Asia. The staff were lovely, the rooms very nice, and I was happy with my choice after four nights. The location is great, with lots of nice places to eat and drink nearby, and the Mekong just a two-minute walk away. Monks pass around 5.30am for morning alms, when tour groups seemed to be out in force. Some come again around 6.30am, which is when I saw local people taking part.

These family-run villas and rooms felt clean and safe, and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is just a street or two off the main street, so it’s quiet but still close to the main street and night market. We could also watch the monks’ alms-giving ceremony on this street, away from the tourist main street. 10/10.

Villa Chitdara made Laos an incredible experience for me. The staff welcomed us with a drink, showed us to our room, and explained everything. The grounds were spotless, the breakfast was fantastic, and the location couldn’t be better. Everything about the place felt special. It should be a 5* hotel.

Our room and the facilities were great during our two days there. Breakfast was nice, with plenty of fruit, omelet, jam, and buttered toast. On our last day we had to leave early, so they packed breakfast to go, and it was even better than the one at the hotel: croissant, jam, butter, a banana, and two toast. The car we’d booked to the airport didn’t show because they forgot to pick us up. The hotel lady helped so much: she went to another hotel and arranged for a guy to take us to the airport at no cost. Thanks to her, we didn’t miss our flight! ☺️
