Indara Guesthouse

Good travel, see you around Asia. I came from Luang Prabang on the speed train and was heading from Oudomxay to Dien Bien Phu via Muang Khua. I missed the bus to Muang Khua that day. There’s only one bus a day from the new bus station, leaving at 11:30 am and taking about 3.5 hours. The guesthouse was spacious and good value, from 120,000 kip in January 2023. My double room had good equipment, drinking water and WiFi. There’s a wat on the hill in front, a 5-minute walk away, with a great sunset view. You can ask your guesthouse to call the new town electric bus from the bus station. It takes about 15 minutes and costs 20,000 kip.

The room’s air conditioning worked really well, and the standard Laos bathroom had a sit toilet. It was 100,000 kip a night. I was on the third floor across from the stairs, where the WiFi signal was dead. I had to use the internet on the second or first floor instead. That was manageable, but I’d rather have been able to work in my air-conditioned room.

There’s no WiFi, and people smoke in the rooms. Some things in my room had cigarette burns. A few times I had to wait five minutes for staff to appear at the counter.

For 120,000 kip, I got a nice, clean room in a quiet area near good restaurants and a bakery. Free coffee and hot and cold water were available.
