Barn1920s Hostel

The upstairs lounge was a great place to work or chat. It was cool, had great Wi-Fi, and no one else seemed to use it. I also liked the clean rooms and bathrooms, friendly staff, and good location. Breakfast is included, with a place to cook for yourself if you want, and you get one coffee drink per night of your stay. A really nice perk.

The photos match what you see, and you get a free coffee or other drink every day. Breakfast is included, but you have to make it yourself. The place is cute and in a lovely neighborhood, a bit far from the night market but still walkable.

The bed setup was amazing, with plenty of room for bags and a large locker to lock everything away. I also loved the self-serve breakfast since you can pick what you want to eat, unlike at many hostels. Each night includes a drink from the cafe, which is a nice touch. Clean, great service, and honestly one of my favorite hostels from all my travels.

The bed itself was comfortable, and having a locker beside it, a bed light, and an outlet was convenient. There was ice water available all day, and the location was close enough to the night market. A drink ticket each night was a nice idea, but I wasn't impressed with the coffee. For what you get, it felt overpriced. I didn't want to prepare my own breakfast, and this was the only hostel I'd stayed at in Laos that offered ingredients instead of a cooked breakfast. There was always a queue to make food. The dorm doors slam, and other backpackers weren't careful about closing them quietly, so I was woken early several times by people coming and going. When I checked in, I asked for a bottom bunk and was told the room was full, yet someone who arrived at the same time got one. He stayed only one night while I stayed two, so it seemed like an easy change if they had been willing. The mosquitoes were everywhere, in the bathroom, showers, hall, and rooms. My pillow was lumpy, and I woke with a sore neck. All things considered, I probably wouldn't stay again.
