Venn Hostel

The washroom was clean, and I liked the general atmosphere around the place. Breakfast was good for the price, though ours had gone a bit cold. Freshly made or reheated would have been better. The location is a big plus, close to both the riverside and night market. I was in a rather cluttered mixed dorm with 16 beds. The hallway lighting was dim, but the light by my bed was good. They also ask for a 100 kip security deposit, which you get back at checkout.

The courtyard was my favorite part, it gave the dorm a real homey feel. I spent a month there, and it’s still one of my best memories. I was in the women-only dorm, and while there are things they could improve, I enjoyed my stay. The kitchen and utensils could be cleaner, though I found them acceptable. The dorm is near the riverfront night market and feels more like a home than a business-run place. The people were friendly, and I felt I could trust them with my safety. Breakfast is included and fair for the money. I’d recommend it if you want that home-like feel while visiting Vientiane.

I lost some of my belongings during my stay, and when I told the staff, they showed no concern and did nothing to help. Their manner came across as rude, careless, and unprofessional. The hostel also smelled strongly of marijuana and weed the whole time, in the rooms, hallways, and common areas. It made the place feel very uncomfortable and unsafe. One of the worst places I’ve stayed. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

I felt especially unsafe as a woman, and I wouldn’t recommend staying here to anyone. The shared room had people making strange noises and groaning, which made the atmosphere uncomfortable and unsafe. I was also woken up by a bed bug in my bed. When I reported it, staff offered no apology, solution, or even a gesture. The place felt unhygienic, badly managed, and disrespectful toward guests. Avoid it.
