Xaysomboun Boutique Hotel

The hotel was reasonably clean and not expensive, and breakfast was okay. It's aimed at an Asian clientele, which was fine with me. My main concern was the open windows on the 4th floor staircase on the way up to breakfast. They're right in front of the stairs and start at floor level, so a small child could easily trip and fall through. Those windows are very dangerous and shouldn't be left open. In the UK, I believe windows like that would be illegal in a hotel for safety reasons.

My room was spacious and spotlessly clean, and the staff were pleasant and spoke good English. The doorman or security guy always opened the front door for me. I had read some bad reviews, but personally I was quite satisfied. Just be aware that my room had no windows, and this hotel isn't cheap, especially for Laos, so comfort comes at a price. One thing I didn't like was someone knocking on everyone's doors in the middle of the night. It woke me up, and when I got to the door, the person had quickly rushed away down the corridor. Maybe it was some kind of prank.

I was here for a mandatory trip, and the hotel itself looked nice. The breakfast spread was good, especially the French bread. Most of the room was clean, though there was a suspicious-looking stain on one chair. There was no peephole, which isn't a huge issue, but still felt off. I'm also concerned about the stairwell windows: they're level with the floor and look easy for a child to open. One other pet peeve, the lobby smelled strongly of urine. Apart from that, I thought the hotel was nice.

The staff were friendly, breakfast was decent, and the location is great. The hotel looks good from outside, but the rooms and facilities feel very tired. Our room was spacious and had good AC, though it could have been cleaner, with stains on the walls and worn-out furniture. The pool was pleasant, but the sunbeds were in awful shape. All things considered, 3/5.
