I rented a brand-new bike for five weeks in mid-December after agreeing on what seemed like a fair price, though their first asking price was extremely high. Less than two weeks later, just days before New Year at peak season, they messaged saying it had to go in for maintenance. Maybe it really did need servicing, but they hadn't mentioned that when I rented it. I had plans around the area and couldn't bring it back immediately, so I offered to return it first thing the next morning. They then said I'd be responsible for anything found during service. They agreed to return the bike to me in three hours after I brought it back, but then said it was broken and told me to find another one. When I asked how long repairs would take, they gave a vague answer, maybe a couple of days, and still told me to look elsewhere. After that, they stopped replying. So I was suddenly without a bike at the busiest time of year, when finding one in good condition is nearly impossible. I also couldn't get another long-term rental, which usually comes with a monthly discount from the owner. The bike had been running perfectly. A couple of days later I saw it in their yard, so I suspect they decided to make extra money by renting it out again at a higher price.
