The indoor decorations and paintings were lovely, clearly put together by someone with good taste. I stopped here on the way to Jaffna for a milkshake and a cup of tea, and both were good. The washroom was clean too. Prices felt a bit high by Sri Lankan standards. They do look after a large area with natural scenery, so perhaps upkeep costs a lot, but I still think prices could come down some.

Takeaway meals came in very small portions, and the quality wasn’t there. The prices are high too. Worst place ever, definitely not worth ordering takeaway from.

The food was expensive and limited, and the service was very poor. They told us everything was free on our first visit, but the next day they charged a lot for the hall and the dirty bathing area. When we asked for it to be cleaned, they said it would cost ₹500 per person. They’d also promised a changing room and an unlimited buffet, then changed all of that the next day. It felt like money mattered more to them than people. Not worth it at all.

We left after waiting and getting no service from any staff member, so I can’t say how the food is. It felt as if they were ignoring us and locals weren’t welcome at the restaurant. It’s upsetting to see people in the industry act in a racist way toward their own community. Maybe it’s a colonial, white-supremacist mentality that’s lingered, and it’s sad that people still seem to have this subservient mindset. If you’re local, I’d avoid the restaurant.

Lunch at Boo Oya Nature Resort in Vavuniya was a lovely stop, and the staff were courteous and attentive. Their friendly manner made us feel welcome and well looked after. We had the buffet, with a good range of flavorful, well-prepared dishes for local and international tastes. The dining area overlooks the river, which made a pretty setting for the meal. The resort sits by the peaceful Boo Oya River, surrounded by greenery, a lake, and dense tropical forest. Its rustic design fits the natural surroundings, and it feels far removed from the busy world. I didn’t stay overnight, but saw air-conditioned bungalows and cabanas among the accommodation options. Some river-facing villas seemed to be under renovation or out of use, while the facilities that were available looked well maintained. Free Wi-Fi, room service, and activities such as water sports are available. It’s a charming place to relax and enjoy Sri Lanka’s natural beauty, with good food and warm hospitality.
