Galkadawala Forest Lodge

The hospitality is what made this stay unforgettable. Maulie runs this sanctuary and shared how the land had once been completely destroyed, then reforested over the past 20 years with love and dedication. What she's created is a living sanctuary for plants, trees, and countless species. Darshi, Maulie's brother, was incredibly kind and loved sharing stories and history. We stayed in the most private treehouse. Its partly open structure let us fall asleep to forest sounds and wake to birdsong, while still feeling comfortable. The hot open-air shower surrounded by greenery was another highlight. From the moment we arrived, a calm feeling settled in and stayed with us. And the food was incredible. I've visited Sri Lanka more than 10 times, and this was the best food I've had here. As a vegetarian, I was in heaven. Breakfast was included and amazing, but we stayed for lunch and dinner too. Every meal was fresh, creative, and full of flavor. We'll absolutely come back and recommend this peaceful, unique place to anyone wanting a special stay in nature.

I loved walking five minutes to the tank/lake to see and hear so many birds in their natural habitat. This is a personal project that can benefit and influence the people who stay here. It's a unique experience close to nature, with creative design and sustainability and ecology at the fore. We got a warm welcome from attentive staff. There are open-air bathrooms, huge beds, tasty and plentiful food, and very friendly dogs.

I've been twice and this is one of my favorite places and airbnbs in the world. The forest setting and rooms are thoughtfully designed, mindful, and sustainable. Maulie welcomed us and was always responsive and approachable. All the staff were amazing, and the dinner and breakfast were the best I had in Sri Lanka. The dogs are lovely, hi Thomas! Our host also helped arrange tours and transport. Just be aware that the place is built around nature, so expect insects, especially at night. Every stay here has been amazing.

Our early morning began with a packed breakfast they prepared for us before our adventures. It had bananas and the most amazing crepes I've ever had, a lovely touch we'll remember. Dinner was exceptional too, delicious, thoughtfully presented, and memorable. After two magical days at Galkadawala Forest Lodge, we were impressed by the warm hospitality, kindness, and attention to detail. The team was friendly, professional, and ready to help, and the care they put into the place and environment made the sustainable hospitality feel special. From the warm welcome onward, we felt at home. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place with us. We'll miss your warmth and hope to return.
