Heaven Upon Rice Fields

We spent three nights at Heaven Upon Rice Fields in February, and this stay was one of the highlights of our trip. Everyone was kind and helpful, especially Nish, who arranged our sightseeing transport around Anuradhapura and Mihintale, our airport pickup, and the transfer to our next destination. We ended up eating all our breakfasts and dinners at the hotel because it was convenient and the food was so good. Each meal was different, giving us a chance to try a range of Sri Lankan dishes. They even made the fish curry we asked for one night. It was a friendly, comfortable, relaxing place to stay, and we hope to visit again.

The rice paddies look especially lovely when they’re green, and the meals here are home-cooked local dishes. We spent two nights exploring Anuradhapura. The room was nice, though the bathroom was basic, and the staff were very kind and helpful. Good value for the money, thank you!

When we arrived, the family had lunch ready for us on the spot, and it was fantastic. This is a family-run place with all the family involved, and they made our visit feel really special. On our last day the tuk-tuk didn’t show up for our trip into town, so the father of the family drove us himself. He wouldn’t take payment at first, and we had to insist quite a bit before he finally accepted. Such a unique experience. I can only recommend it!

The location and views are awesome, but the service was just as bad. I was aghast when the property told me Indians complain a lot, and that was why they hadn’t offered us a room. They said a previous group of mine had rightly pointed out their shortcomings. Be aware that any complaints may go unheard. Please choose carefully.
