Serene View Tourist Rest

The peaceful natural setting at Serene View Tourist Rest made it feel like a home away from home. From the room you can watch sunrise over paddy fields and see nearby tanks. The staff were warm and attentive, and it felt safe and welcoming for families, couples, or solo travellers. Rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, with extra beds and space for larger families. There's a private, cosy atmosphere, plus a lounge, TV and outdoor areas with scenic views of fields at sunrise and sunset. Facilities include hot water, Wi-Fi, air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned rooms, free parking and drinking water. Meals and drinks can be requested from a customized menu, with fresh local options available. Nuwara Wewa and Puliyankulam Wewa are nearby. Mihintale is 9 km away, Salupura War Memorial and Anuradhapura city centre are each 3 km away, and the railway station is 2 km away. I recommend it as a peaceful, family-friendly and budget-friendly local stay.

We stayed here a month ago and found the rooms, kitchen, bathrooms, and everywhere else untidy. We asked the owner, Niluk, to clean as a favour, and he did it then. But the way he spoke to us the next morning was very unpleasant. He called the place a tourist rest, but I couldn't recommend it even to a local guest.

We spent one night here, from 22 July to 23 July 2023, and it was awful. Although we had booked the whole villa, the person at reception wanted to stay the night with us. We wanted privacy and asked him to leave, but he was stubborn and wouldn't go until the owner, who lived in Colombo, called him. It took an hour to get him to leave. We went out that evening and came back around 9 pm. As our bus approached the villa, we saw the place was blacked out, even though the neighbours' lights and roadside lights were working. We told the owner, but he couldn't fix it. He said the power might return within an hour because of road work, but it never came back. The reception man didn't answer our call, and the owner couldn't provide a generator. Our whole group, including a four-month-old baby, spent the hot, dark night suffering and unable to sleep. We left the windows open, but it was still humid and hot, and mosquitoes were everywhere. The bathrooms in particular weren't properly cleaned. I have photos to upload.

Highly recommend this place. Beautiful, spotless, and the customer service is friendly. The food is a million percent!
