Lakeside Villa

With AC and hot water available, Lakeside Villa makes a practical, affordable base for exploring the Sacred City of Anuradhapura. It's centrally located, just steps from Kumbichchan Kulama Lake and near plenty of local places to eat. The staff are friendly and willing to help. Some rooms are basic or a little dated, but the value and location are good.

We stayed for one night in February 2025, sharing a triple room. It was extremely small, downstairs, and accessed from outside. The place is pretty basic. The AC only had an on/off switch, so there was no way to adjust it, and the hot water didn't work properly. The sheets had been washed, but they were patchy and looked worn and used. If comfort is what you're after, this probably isn't the best choice.

I felt comfortable here, and the manager was really nice. The rooms were clean and it was good value, with the market and an Ayurvedic healing center just a short walk away. Bring earplugs if you sleep lightly.

The shower splashed water onto the toilet seat, which could be improved, but the room was clean and had a mosquito net. I'd especially recommend a second-floor room, since those have balconies. The hotel was flexible about breakfast requests, which I appreciated, and I'd stay again if I get the chance. Around the lake there are snack shops and drink bars, and people often walk there in the morning and evening. It gets dark at night, but the area felt pleasant, quiet, and comfortable.
