The room was spacious and had AC, which we really appreciated in the heat. Hiring bicycles was another plus, and the staff helped us out with our last-minute booking. The location also made it easy to get into the city and visit nearby attractions, and breakfast was a nice start to the day. There was road noise at times because our room was close to the road, so it wasn’t the most restful spot. We also thought the price was a little high for the quality. Still, Hotel Shalini was a practical, conveniently located choice for a short visit.

The restaurant was empty when we had dinner at Hotel Shalini, but the curry was delicious and the service was friendly. I’d definitely recommend eating here.

We ended up ordering a couple of rice and curry dishes, and everything was tasty and cooked well. The owner, or at least we think he was the owner, was warm and helpful with suggestions. He brought us fresh fruit at the end, which we really appreciated. A lovely spot for an authentic Sri Lankan dinner, and one I’d gladly recommend.

We ate at the Shalini Restaurant in October 2025, my wife, some friends, and me. The owner was very friendly, and the local main dishes were good and generous in size. Prices were low too. Absolutely recommend it.

I really recommend the chicken, it was so well flavoured I wished I had room for more :D The curries went nicely together, so you could mix them all. They even got the spice level right for us as tourists, which made the meal really enjoyable. The food was amazing, delicate and refined.
