Gecko Restaurant & Rooms

We only ate at the restaurant, so I can’t say anything about the rooms. The food came out promptly and was really fresh and delicious. It’s the first place I’ve found in Arugam Bay with real sausages and bacon! The staff were lovely, the bathrooms were clean, and it’s right by the beach, so we went for a swim afterward. I’ll definitely come back.

Just reviewing the restaurant: this was our best non-Sri Lankan meal of the trip. The Korean fried chicken was crisp on the outside and moist inside, with sesame seeds and a lovely glaze. We also had fried tuna, which was juicy inside and nicely crisp outside, something you don’t often get here. The hummus was tasty, and the fresh flatbread arrived warm, light, and amazing. Everything was so good, I can’t think of anything bad to say.

The chef was so friendly and chatty, and dinner was delicious. We loved the fish and chips, fried just right with great flavor. The eggplant and salad were fresh and really good too. We had a lovely time.

We didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t speak to the rooms. We had a great evening, though. It’s family run, and everyone was kind and helpful. They even shared places to see elephants and crocodiles and suggested other spots for good food. The dishes were fantastic and clearly made with care. I’d highly recommend stopping here on a trip to Arugam.
