Paper Moon Kudils

The staff made us feel at home in Arugam Bay, and we won’t forget how thoughtful they were. They surprised my boyfriend with a birthday breakfast in front of the ocean, complete with balloons, cake, decorations, and breakfast. Everyone seemed excited and nervous to get it right. It was one of the sweetest moments of our Sri Lanka trip. After some chaotic places to stay earlier in the trip, Paper Moon Kudils felt wonderfully peaceful. It’s simple but full of charm, with a pool, palm trees, coconuts, a relaxed atmosphere, and the beach literally in front. Our room was huge, too. We honestly had such a lovely stay.

Adding details since they replied: I do have past reviews on my profile, lol. I stayed in Aug 2024. At the time, the facilities weren’t great and the hotel didn’t really look like the pictures. For the same price, there were better places we would have booked if we’d known. Hopefully it’s improved since then. I wish the property well.

This little hotel is in Potuvil, about 15 minutes from Arugambay, and was great value for a relaxing budget stay. We explored around Arugambay and took the Potuvil lagoon safari while based here. The beach is right in front, a lovely place to watch sunrise. We chose a poolside/Oceanside Kudil. The cabanas, or “Kudils,” are simple, clean, and well maintained, with AC and hot water. There’s a pool, plus a viewing deck with a picturesque ocean view and armchairs where you can read or relax with your travel mates. The kitchen menu is limited but delicious, and the staff are friendly and very helpful. I heard from previous travellers that the king coconut and lime juice is to die for, though it wasn’t available during our visit.

The food was decent, though I think it could be better to match the rest of the experience. I really enjoyed my stay and would happily return. The location was convenient, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff were welcoming. Service overall was excellent.
