The breakfast was ridiculously good, and the rooms were quiet and spotless. We also loved the location and how kind the owners, a woman and her niece, were to us. Really good value. We’ll be back!

The breakfast was delicious, made by the lovely hostess, and the shower had properly hot water. Hotel Shanelo also has a lovely, well-kept garden at the entrance. Our room was spotless, and unlike some other reviews, we found enough power sockets. We had a really nice stay.

The hotel smelled bad, the rooms were dusty, and the toilet was loose and uncomfortable to sit on. Two rooms in our group had AC that didn't work. When we reported the problems, the owner tried to charge us more. The place is run down and charges seem to come for everything. I had the worst hotel experience I've had in Sri Lanka. I'd avoid it. There are plenty of other hotels nearby.

Shamen and the staff were attentive and keen to help. Shamen even kept our luggage for a few days while we went on an excursion. Breakfast was the standout, with something different and delicious each morning from Shamen. It's a tidy budget hotel near the beach, shops, and restaurants. The rooms were clean and adequate, though nothing special. A good spot for a short stay.
