Rangala House

The walks Anthony pointed us toward were a lovely way to see the quiet countryside, winding over hills and through tea picking fields. We also loved how the house, gardens and our bright, spotless room were cared for, and the mountain view from the room kept catching our eye. Meals were freshly cooked and full of flavour, and sitting down to eat with the mountain scenery in front of us was a treat. Anthony welcomed us warmly, and Sam and the whole Rangala team were kind, attentive and made sure we had what we needed throughout our stay. We started our Sri Lanka trip at Rangala House, and it set a very high bar. The rolling green hills, tea plantations and mountains in every direction looked almost unreal. Such a special mix of scenery, food and genuinely warm hospitality. We couldn't have asked for a better first stop, and we'll recommend it to everyone we know.

The food is what we'll remember most. The local chef is incredibly talented, and the dishes were phenomenal, a real step above the rest. The hotel sits in a wonderful spot among the tea plantations. Our room and the service were good too.

Getting to Rangala House turned out to be quite easy, which was a real plus. We were after a quiet, first class boutique stay with a strong sense of Sri Lankan hospitality, and that's what we found. Of the five hotels we visited across Sri Lanka, including two five star properties and other boutique hotels, Rangala gave us the most exceptional atmosphere and experience. Every room had its own character, and waking up to a jungle view was amazing. The house brings British charm and Sri Lankan tradition together in its details and in the way guests are cared for. The food was top notch. Nowhere else in Sri Lanka gave us that depth of flavour or such a range of ingredients, some grown there themselves. Try the Western dinner with its British touch too, it would be exceptionally good even in Europe. Photos can't really convey the beauty of the place. We'll definitely come back.

We felt at home straight away thanks to Anthony and his welcoming team. The trekking guide was fabulous, and so was the massage. And the food! The talented chefs served exquisite meals at every opportunity, some of the best we've had here in Sri Lanka. Thank you all again!
