Pearl Of The Bay

A decent place to stay in Arugam Bay, though a little pricier than similar places elsewhere in the country. The rooms were clean and the AC worked great, but bugs can be an issue because of the garden outside, and housekeeping could be better. The small road outside is dirt, though the route overall is clean and good. The host/caretaker is a nice, polite guy who’s helpful.

We had small children who couldn’t sleep because it was noisy. Sometimes people partied hard inside the hotel, and sometimes noise came through the bathroom window, which opens onto a restaurant that sometimes parties until 3AM. For low or average quality, the hotel is soooo expensive. We would have paid 15$ for this kind of room elsewhere in sri lanka. The staff seemed lazy and lost, weren’t helpful, and didn’t clean once in 6 nights. There wasn’t even a trashcan in the room. This place is not for families!

The first-floor room was dirty, with an old, broken, disgusting shower. There were tons of ants and cockroaches, and the blankets and towels were old and nasty. If you come here, bring your own. I don’t recommend it.

A really nice place for a low price, in a great spot near the main things in arugam, about a 10-minute walk from the main point. The rooms are big and clean, with hot water and air con. The staff are so nice. Highly recomended.
