Surf & Turf

I didn't stay overnight, but came by a couple of times for lunch and to use the sunbeds. The owner was very friendly, and the hotel's vibe felt unique compared with other places in Arugam. I appreciated that it had kept Arugam's authentic feel.

We nearly passed on booking because my girlfriend asked, "What's the catch?" That would have been a mistake. Mido and his team offer location and vibes, not luxury or bullshit. In August '25 we paid US$ 20,- plus tax a night. AC rooms are available, too. The basic rooms are basic. Outside there's a veranda with two chairs and a hammock upstairs. Inside, a bed, desk, chair and a door to the bathroom. The non-AC rooms have a cold-water shower, toilet, bum gun, sink and mirror. There are enough plugs for your electronics. No soap or water bottles, but the convenience store is around the corner. And the Indian Ocean is only 20 steps away. Chill music plays from brunch until well after sundown. Come for the adult backpacker vibe, life stories, good music and waves of up to 3 meters, just 10 steps away. Surf lessons and a basic kitchen are available, both recommended. It's a fit if you're laid back, want a prime spot, music until 11 p.m. and a team doing everything they can to make your stay great. Skip it if you need immaculate rooms or can't sleep with music playing. If you like falling asleep to crashing waves and chill music, you'll feel at home. I can't recommend Surf & Turf enough for the right crowd. We'll be back next time we're in Arugam Bay.

The owner is great, and the place has a different feel from the other spots along the road. It's great for a drink and good music, day or night. The clean cabanas are right by the beach, so you can wake up to the sound of the ocean.

The staff were really friendly. I stopped in for a beer at the bar and enjoyed the sea view, though 1,000 Rs for a local beer felt pricey.
