The two-hour cruise was the best part of our stay. Passing the mostly uninhabited islands along the channel gave it an adventurous feel, and getting there takes about a 20 km drive from the Welipenna highway exit. Yathra houseboat is one of Jetwing’s more unusual properties, and the service was very good. We couldn’t eat on the rooftop because it was raining, though dinner there sounds like it could be a great experience. The food itself was disappointing: there wasn’t much variety, the portion didn’t thrill me, and I didn’t like the taste. I also wasn’t keen on the captain. If those things improved, the stay would be perfect.

The boat gives you a distinctive vintage stay, with a calm, peaceful setting and good customer service. You can take a one to two hour cruise for an extra charge, though we didn’t enjoy that as much as expected. There’s only one boat, with two rooms, and they were a bit dusty. Food choices are limited, and the experience didn’t feel up to Jetwing standards. There’s nowhere to relax besides the boat, so after a few hours the boat experience can get boring.

We booked through jetwing and found the boat comfortable enough, with everything we needed. It is a unique place, though a little dated and in need of some refreshing. Our host was very friendly, cooked a great meal, shared lots of stories, and showed us around on the boat tour. We loved our stay.

The hospitality was really good, and having dedicated security at night helped us feel less worried about spending the night on the boat while it was anchored. Food wasn’t so good, though, so I wouldn’t go in expecting much from the meals. Captain Koralage, a war veteran of the three-decade war between Srilanka and LTTE, gently led us on a fascinating 2-3 hour cruise as part of our one-day visit. The trip focused on sunrise or sunset around Dedduwa lagoon area. I watched the sunset with my newly married wife. We were lucky that the boat’s other room was empty after a last-minute cancellation. I imagine the houseboat is best when you have it to yourselves, with family or friends. They offer the option of booking the whole boat, and I’d take it. Overall it was a really good experience, highly recommended for a day visit. Try to have both rooms occupied by your own group.

For our engagement on 17th April 2022, Yathra Houseboat by Jetwing was a wonderful venue. We chose it over a traditional enclosed wedding hall, and being on a cruise on Dedduwa River let us take care of everything our special day required, including signing the papers. The place was beautifully maintained, and the team arranged food, drinks, and decorations just as we needed. Capt.Mr.Leel Koralage and the staff gave us exceptional support and great service.
