I'm a gem dealer from Bangkok, and I want to warn people away from this terrible place. We ended up here because the other place we'd rented was closed, and it was our first time in Beruwala, so we didn't know. The hotel was in such bad shape that we started looking for somewhere else and left our belongings there. We didn't spend a night or shower, so we practically didn't use anything in the room, but when we returned the owner yelled at us and threatened to call the police unless we paid the full stay price. He kept insisting he was right to charge us. I would never recommend this hotel. The rooms were very dirty, with leaking AC and cockroaches. It was unwelcoming and in the worst condition I've ever seen. I hope people know this is the worst place in Sri Lanka. Beware.

I'm very sad to share this experience. The hotel was overpriced and not clean, and nothing looked like the photos they posted. I think those pictures may have been taken before the tsunami. The staff weren't cooperative and had no manners when speaking to us. There was no Wi-Fi, and the place was very far from the main road.

The tables by the river have a nice view, and it's a pleasant spot to stop for a meal. My boyfriend and I were staying next door, but came over for coffee and then pizza for dinner. The staff were extremely kind both times, and the pizza was very tasty. A gentleman singing during dinner made for a nice atmosphere :)

We visited in January 2016. The beach was fantastic and very secluded, and the hotel had an elegant view from every side. Staff were friendly, and there was a lovely dog living at the hotel. We found it dirty in the rooms, with old bathrooms, but there was good air conditioning, a fan, and hot water. We agreed on the price there, and it wasn't expensive, with breakfast included. I'd recommend it for not a lot of money.

The breakfast was good, and you might get a nice sea view if you're lucky enough to have a sea-view room. Those are the only real positives I could find. There's almost no beach or service, and hardly any neighborhood infrastructure, such as restaurants, cafes, grocery shops, or fruit stalls. The lake nearby looks very dirty and is dirty. Avoid this hotel.
